2015 – the year in review

I’m a bit late to the party with reviewing last year but December was such a busy month (and I still have not caught up with all my trip reports).

However, 2015 was an epic year for being outdoors.  It was dominated by hills, hills and more hills with less running or cycling than in previous years as weekends away in the Bongo presided over any other plans.

Scafell Pike from Langdale (Lake District)

Sunday was a bit gloomier weatherwise after Saturday’s glorious wall to wall sunshine.  Ally and I drove out to Elterwater and found the end of the road where our planned approach up Scafell Pike began.  We managed to find a parking spot round the corner from Wall End.  The fells here are very dramatic and full of character.

Striding Edge and Helvellyn via Fairfield (The Lake District)

Grisedale – Striding Edge – Helvellyn – Nethermost Pike – Dollywagon Pike – Fairfield – Hart Crag – Hartsop Above How – Patterdale

Saturday was a beautiful day – sunny, warmish and a very light breeze.  Ally and I parked the van at the White Lion carpark in Patterdale this time (£4) and I was delighted when the lady told me I would get the money redeemed on a drink or food later if I showed my ticket 🙂

High Street (The Lake District)

Patterdale – Angletarn Pikes – Rest Dodd – High Street – The Knott – Hayeswater – Hartsop

We were in the Lake District this bank holiday weekend.  Ally had never been, and having heard so much about it was very keen to go and find out what all the fuss was about.  The last time I was there was over a decade ago.  I couldn’t remember where I walked; it was in the days where I couldn’t have cared less what hill I was on as long as I was in them, although I could remember what pubs I had been in!
